Proposal Title
Telling Our Stories: Live Public Wall Art Drawing and Painting
Abstract
As a part of Lesley University’s Community of Scholars Day, we propose to host the first collaborative art project with a Japanese artist. Lesley faculty and students, as well as high school students from the Artists for Humanity in Boston (http://afhboston.org), will work with a Japanese artist to create wall art. The wall art will be implemented in the Porter Square Exchange Building in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Additionally, the project will include a workshop on March 28, 2019 at which Mr. Oomori will work with Lesley University students to produce an illustrative work. Lesley University will invite Mr. Kazuo Oomori, a highly regarded independent illustrator, whose work has received international attention, to facilitate Lesley’s inaugural live public wall art project and conduct workshops with Lesley University students to produce illustrative works. The project, led by Mr. Oomori, will expose the Lesley community as well as the Cambridge/Boston public to the unique illustrative approach Mr. Oomori has developed in working with both Japanese and U.S based agencies. Moreover, the wall art project will represent a meaningful collaboration with Artists for Humanity in Boston, a program for underserved youth.
