Abstract
Burnout is recognized by the World Health Organization as an occupational phenomenon characterized by exhaustion, cynicism and reduced professional efficacy (World Health Organization [WHO], 2019). While burnout is well researched in high-stress professions, burnout in dancers appears to be lacking. This literature review examines existing burnout theories, current assessment tools and the lived experience of burnout within the dance population together with the role of Dance/Movement Therapy as an intervention.
