Proposal Title

Lesley University Mt. Auburn Cemetery Urban Ecosystem Project - Climate Change Eduction

Abstract

Lesley University Mt. Auburn Cemetery Urban Ecosystem Project

Join us for a celebratory reception and research report at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Enjoy expansive views overlooking the Asa Gray garden as you explore this important urban greenspace. Lesley University Interim President Richard Hansen and Dave Barnett, President and CEO Mt. Auburn Cemetery will offer opening remarks. Lesley Faculty and Mt. Auburn staff will report results from collaborative research projects studying the impacts of climate change, white nose resistance in bats, pollinator abundance and diversity, GIS mapping, and education outreach and more. Enjoy good eats, beautiful landscapes, and help us brainstorm next steps.

Collaborative partnerships can help address social justice implications brought on by global climate change. Lesley University Mt. Auburn Cemetery Urban Ecosystem Project can serve as a model and a platform for engaging Lesley university faculty, staff and students, and our local community, in understanding and addressing the impacts of global climate change. From the therapeutic benefits of access to greenspace to the biological implications of species diversity and survival in a changing climate, this partnership offers concrete opportunities for citizen science research that can lead to new understandings and action. The progress and relationships made through this budding partnership is extraordinary, and it makes us hopeful that we can expand our reach and impact.
